Research Interests:

Dr. Panchapakesan's research interests are in the area of nanotechnology for sensing, actuation and biomedical applications. He is exploring the many unique physical properties of nanomaterials for its potential applications as imaging, drug delivery and therapeutic agents.  Specifically, Dr. Panchapakesan has utilized the unique optical absorption properties of carbon nanotubes as potent nanobomb agents to selectively kill breast cancer cells. He has also developed nanotubes-based devices for sensing molecular signatures in breast and pancreatic cancer cells.

Since September 2001, Dr. Panchapakesan has been at the University of Delaware. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maryland, College Park in 2001. Dr. Panchapakesan has published over 35 articles in the area of nanotechnology in leading international journals, conferences and workshops. He received the National Science Foundation CAREER award in 2005 for his efforts in the applications of nanotubes for detecting molecular signatures in cancer cells.
