Research Interests:
Dr. Sherrier holds the first dual appointment for the Delaware Biotechnology Institute and the University. Her current research focuses on the symbiotic relationship between plants in the legume family and the soil microbe rhizobia and the resulting development of a nitrogen-fixing root nodule. Complementary areas of research within her laboratory include plant pathogen interactions, plant development, and proteomics, a relatively new area of research focusing on protein composition of biological tissues. She will be responsible for teaching plant developmental biology in the Plant and Soil Sciences Department at the University.
Dr. Sherrier received her Ph.D. in biology at the University of Texas A&M University and a bachelor’s of science degree in biology from Baylor University. She completed two years of post-doctoral work in cell biology and genetics at the John Innes Centre in Norwich, England and three years of post-doctoral work in a proteomics laboratory in the Biochemistry Department at The University of Cambridge.
