Research Overview:

Educated in both the People’s Republic of China and the United States of America, I use both the eastern and the western philosophy in teaching my students at Delaware State University (DSU). I enjoy teaching my students very much and my students also love my teaching.

With the strong support from DSU administration and by working with my faculty colleagues, I created the first DSU Ph.D. program in Interdisciplinary Applied Mathematics and Mathematical Physics. Currently, we have 24 graduate students. I conduct collaborated research with colleagues and students in the following areas: Ground Penetrating Radar Imaging, Image Processing, 3D Models, Inverse Problems, and particularly defense interested applied mathematics. My research is funded by the Army Research Office, the Army Research Labs, the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and the US Department of Education. Currently, I am PI of 3 external grants totaling of $4,432,000. One of the grants is funded by the Army Research Office at $4,000,000 for establishing the Applied Mathematics Research Center in Fall 2003. The Center consists 6 faculty members (one PI and five Co-PIs) and supports 2 research associates, one visiting professor, 9 graduate students and 4 undergraduate students. I also work on mammogram imaging for detecting breast cancer under the funding of an INBRE grant from NIH.
