Built as the gateway to the Technology Park, this $15 million state-of-the-art building serves as the hub for the Institute’s research network, focusing on agriculture both for plants and animals, human health, marine environmental genomics, biomaterials, and bioinformatics. In full operation, the facility will house up to 180 scientists most of them graduate students and postdoctoral researchers in a collaborative and interdisciplinary environment. The two-story structure includes some forty laboratories, several core instrumentation centers covering such areas as bioimaging, bioinformatics, custom microarrays, proteomics, structural biology, and growth chambers, offices for faculty, staff and students, and a number of conference rooms, many of them equipped for video conferencing. The building also features some incubator space to foster close collaboration with industrial partners. Built in close partnership with the Delaware Technology Park, the Institute will be the meeting ground for industry and academia in their mission to meet the economic development needs of the State in the area of biotechnology. The Institute’s research facility complements the existing expertise and services available at the Park, which include biotechnology, information technology and advanced materials technology. |
