Kristi Kiick speaks at Newark Charter High School

Kristi Kiick, deputy dean of engineering, visited Newark Charter High School Thursday, Nov. 14, to speak with more than 100 high school freshmen about careers in engineering. Kiick, a materials scientist and biomedical engineer, shared her journey to engineering and discussed her research on the use of resilin — a natural protein found in crickets and other insects—to treat vocal fold disorders in humans. After the presentation, NCS freshman talked with UD engineering students and participated in hands-on activities that included solar cricket observations, hydrogel use and other engineering related activities provided by the UD K-12 Engineering program.
