Research Overview:

Dr. Joan Barber has over 15 years of teaching experience and is the recipient of the College’s inaugural “Excellence in Teaching” Award (1999). Dr. Barber has a firm grasp of science pedagogy and has designed syllabi for several courses at Delaware Tech and taught a variety of courses including Biology I and II, Cell Biology, Biochemistry, Anatomy & Physiology, and Biotechnology.

Dr. Barber has also reviewed numerous textbooks and ancillary materials; developed critical thinking questions for several textbooks, and authored a laboratory manual for the College’s Anatomy & Physiology course. She has served as the Chair of the Faculty Senate, co-chair of the Periodic Review Report to the Commission on Higher Education and currently serves as co-chair for the Reaccredidation Self-Study. She was the coordinator of the Human Anatomy & Physiology Society Regional meeting and serves on the physiological genomics subcommittee.

Dr. Barber is Principal investigator for “A Collaborative Biotechnology Program for Delaware” which partners DBI and Delaware Tech to implement an updated biotechnology program. This NSF-funded ATE project includes a revised curriculum with updated student competencies, adaptation of exemplary materials, and student internships; support for faculty development including faculty internships; updated laboratory instrumentation; and development of biotechnology certificate and specialized training programs.
