Dr. Dhurjati’s research interests are divided between biotechnology and artificial intelligence. In the area of biotechnology, he is interested in the effect of gene manipulations on the whole organism or system level. He is trying to understand and model the beneficial as well as unwanted side effects of genetic engineering. In the area of artificial intelligence, he has been developing “intelligent” software modules capable of converting “data” into “knowledge.” Such intelligent data analysis or expert system modules are useful for the analysis of data in the chemical process industries. Currently, he is developing bioinformatic software tools for information management in biotechnology.
Dr. Dhurjati joined the faculty of the University of Delaware in 1982. He has since spent a sabbatical year as a visiting scientist at the Pasteur Institute in Paris.
