Professional Development

DBI is committed to the engagement and inspiration of the next generation scientist through the “Science for All Delawareans” (S4DE) initiative. The S4DE initiative includes K-12 teacher professional development programs to help K-12 teachers stay up to date with the latest technologies and offer ideas on how to infuse modern concepts into the classroom.

A recent example is a 2013 teacher training program in biofuels and bioproduction for a more sustainable economy, a project funded by the USDA and Delaware’s Division of Natural Resources & Environmental Control. The program showed teachers how to incorporate a broad range of topics into their curriculum, examples include sustainability, systems thinking, biomass feedstocks, liquid biofuels (ethanol, biodiesel), bioheat, biopower, bioproducts, and public policy on bioenergy and bioproducts.
